At TPS the early years foundation stage comprises of a part time nursery class for 3 to 4 year olds as well as a Reception class for 4 to 5 year olds. In the Nursery, part time 3 to 4 year olds are eligible for the 15 hours free early years funding.

TPS uses the ‘Statutory Early Years framework’ (2014) and Development matters’ (2012) to meet the legal, learning and development requirements outlined for the early years foundation stage, coupled with the tarbiyyah curriculum, which comprises of Islamic studies, as well as Arabic and Qur’aan.

Our school is committed to the 4 principles of the early years which include: unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments which supports learning and development towards the 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Practitioners follow the observation, assessment and planning (OAP) cycle to plan a balance of adult led and child led activities.
Planning ensures that the learning objectives, possible activities and resources are organised across the prime areas of learning which are:

• Personal, social and emotional development
• Physical development
• Communication and Language

And specific areas of learning, which are:

• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Working in partnership with parents, practitioners ensure challenge that will foster the characteristics of effective early learning, which include: playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically.
